Quality Trucks Built by Quality People Leyland Trucks Ltd., one of Britain’s leading manufacturing companies,
is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc - PACCAR is a global technology
leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of high-quality
light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF
and Foden nameplates. Since Leyland Trucks was acquired by PACCAR in 1998,
it has become the Group's established centre for light and medium truck
design, development and manufacture. Leyland Trucks Ltd designs and produces trucks
from 6 to 44 tonnes for each of PACCAR's established international brands
- Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF and Foden. Over 100 Years of Truck Building
Leyland has a
long and distinguished history dating from 1896, when the Sumner
and Spurrier families founded the Lancashire Steam Motor Company in
the town of Leyland, in North West England. This company's original
product - a 1.5-ton-capacity steam van - was the start of what was to
become an unbeaten heritage of engineering and production excellence that
relates directly to the Leyland Trucks of today. |

Leyland Assembly Plant Leyland Trucks Today Leyland Trucks operates from one of Europe's most advanced truck assembly facilities, the Leyland Assembly Plant in North West England. The company, employing 1,000 people, manufactures 14,000 trucks per year of which approximately 35% is exported to all European Community Markets. The Company's future development is focused on the use of leading edge applications of information technology in all aspects of truck design, manufacture, procurement and logistics. The 650,000 sq. ft
plant has two chassis lines, and more recently has invested in a major
redevelopment converting the high bay component warehouse into a world
class parts distribution centre which has become the home of PACCAR Parts
in the UK. |

Leyland Trucks has an absolute commitment to quality and continuous
improvement throughout all levels in the company. Leyland has won the
PACCAR Chairman's Quality Award for 1999, 2000 and 2002 - signifying that
its vehicles meet the highest quality standards of those produced by any
PACCAR plant world-wide. In addition, Leyland Trucks was recognised
as Britain's Best Engineering Factory 2000 by Management Today in
association with Cranfield School of Management and in partnership with
Investors In People (IIP) and the Engineering Employers’ Federation (EEF).
Leyland Trucks has now adopted Six Sigma measurement and process
improvement methodology which sets the most demanding quality standards in
the world. |
